Job Classifications

These categories are to be used as general guidelines for performance standards and are not meant to define what duties you will be required to perform. The nature of construction work at times may require carpenters to work as helpers and helpers as carpenters. Your job superintendent will issue job assignments and you will be expected to perform them to the best of your abilities. Everyone is expected to do whatever is required to bring the project in on time and with the quality of work C. L. Lewis & Co. is known for.

Helper

  • Shows positive attitude
  • Accepts and completes all tasks promptly
  • Demonstrates skills needed to keep jobsites clean and all debris compiled
  • Exhibits ability to operate small gas and electric powered equipment
  • Displays interest in learning additional skills needed for the various phases of construction work

Rough Carpenter

  • Exhibits aptitude in learning to read blueprints
  • Exhibits interest and aptitude in setting up and using field instruments
  • Shows proficient knowledge in framing and form work
  • Has acquired the following hand tools and has demonstrated the ability to use them
    • Hammer
    • Flat Bar or Crow Bar
    • Lineman’s Pliers
    • Tape Measure (25' + 50' or 100')
    • Flooring Chisel
    • Utility Knife
    • Pocket Square
    • Chalk Box
    • Level 2'& 4'
    • 6' Wooden Rule

Finish Carpenter

  • Shows proficient knowledge in framing, form and finish work
  • Has demonstrated the ability to install all work plumb, true and aligned with adjacent materials
  • Understands the esthetic value of their work
  • Has advanced blueprint reading abilities
  • Must have the required tools (listed below) and the ability to use them proficiently.

Superintendent

Possesses the knowledge, strength, and capabilities required to run a project from the beginning through its completion. These individuals are responsible for directing each aspect of the project from subcontractors to C. L. Lewis & Co. employees and for completing all paperwork associated with the project. These individuals must have the ability to train their crew and further develop the skills of their workers. It is their responsibility to oversee the safety of the jobsite, administer first aid, and to insure all employees comply with company policies. Proficient knowledge of all aspects of construction, including various management skills, is required. They are to run the job in a smooth, consistent, timely, safe and economical manner.
