Job Overview

Training Period

Your first 90 days of active and continuous employment with our firm are considered an Introductory Period. This period is a try-out time for both you, as an employee, and C.L. Lewis & Co. as an employer. During this period the Company will evaluate your suitability for employment, and you can evaluate the Company as well. At any time during this 90 day period, you may resign at your discretion. If during this period your work habits, attitude, attendance or performance do not measure up to our standards, we reserve the right to release you. If you take any extended time off during this period, the Introductory Period may be extended by that length of time.

Pay Day

Our pay period begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Pay day is the following Friday; however, as a convenience to you, we hand out the paychecks after 2:00 PM on Thursday. If we find employees are abusing this courtesy by leaving work early to cash their checks, or not showing up for work on Friday, we will be forced to discontinue this practice. Employees who are terminated will receive their paychecks on their regularly scheduled pay day.

Overtime

All hourly employees will be paid one and one-half times the hourly rate for all hours worked over forty hours per week. Holiday pay or a day of vacation does not count as hours worked.

Raises and Advancement

Your performance will be evaluated during a training period of 29 days. At this time your immediate supervisor will evaluate your quality of work, productivity, job knowledge, dependability, attitude and cooperation.

Each year you will be evaluated during the month of December. If there is a rate adjustment, it will go into effect the first pay period in January.

Working Hours

Our normal schedule is eight hours a day Monday through Friday.

Work hours are determined with the job superintendent and project manager at the start of a project. You may be requested to work ten hours a day for four days a week. This allows you the opportunity to get a 40-hour work week and keep a job on schedule if a day is missed during the week as a result of adverse weather conditions. When it is determined weather is not a factor, the normal schedule of eight hours a day for five days will resume.

Because of the nature of certain projects, sometimes it may be necessary to work unusual hours and at unusual times. You are expected to cooperate when called upon.

Lunch and Breaks

You are allowed the following:

  • 8-hour day: one ten-minute break in the morning and 30 minutes for lunch in the afternoon.
  • 10-hour day: one ten-minute break in the morning, 30 minutes for lunch, and one ten-minute break in the afternoon.

This schedule may be adjusted due to specific jobsite circumstances.
