Our Commitment to Safety
All safety rules and regulations are to be followed at all times. Failure
to do so will result in first, a verbal warning; second, a written warning;
third, suspension; and forth, dismissal.
- No tennis shoes or soft-soled shoes will be allowed.
- Each employee will be issued a hard hat and safety glasses and will
be expected to wear them. Ear protection will also be provided as required.
- All employees are required to take part in the weekly safety meetings
held at each jobsite and to attend any safety training programs or
classes that are scheduled.
- Each employee will be provided with a copy of the Construction Employee
Safety Handbook. It will be your responsibility to read this booklet
and to be familiar with the safety topics it contains.
- All employees must notify their project superintendent immediately
if they are injured, witness an accident, or see an unsafe condition.
- All employees must sign the Safety Policy Agreement.
General Safety Rules
- Do not use unsafe tools or equipment. Turn in all unsafe tools or
equipment to your superintendent.
- Machinery equipment and trucks must be operated by authorized personnel
only.
- No horseplay allowed on the jobsite.
- Housekeeping, safety, and efficiency go together. Always keep your
work area neat and clean.
- Do not attempt to lift or move heavy loads without adequate assistance.
Learn to lift things properly. Lift with your leg muscles and not with
your back.
- Always face ladders while going up or coming down. Tie off all ladders
and report broken or unsafe ladders to your superintendent.
- Always place safety above haste or quickness. Be watchful of
yourself and of everyone else in order to prevent accidents.
- Observe and obey all safety rules as presented by OSHA.
- Beware of asbestos. If you encounter material suspected of containing
asbestos, stop work and notify your superintendent immediately.
Safety Bonus Program
We require a safe working environment and have a Safety Bonus Program
to reward those who work safely.
If an OSHA inspection is made on one of our projects and no violations
are sited, the job superintendent will receive $50.00 and any man employed
by C.L. Lewis & Co. working on that project at the time of the inspection
will receive $20.00.
If there are also no violations sited for the subcontractors working
on the project, the job superintendent will receive an additional $50.00.
Injury and Accident Reporting
-
Report the accident to your superintendent or first aid person immediately.
-
If your superintendent determines that you require treatment you will
be sent to Physicians Treatment Center (located at 2832 Candlers
Mountain Road). If they feel additional care is needed, they will send you
to the hospital. If you go to the hospital emergency room rather than
follow this procedure, you may be responsible for the costs involved.
If you are working on an out of town job then the superintendent will
advise you where to go.
-
We have instructed Physicians Treatment Center to administer a drug test on all employees
brought in for treatment. If the drug test returns a positive result
for illegal drugs, your employment will be terminated immediately.
Any worker’s compensation claim you may file will be contested.
