Working at C.L. Lewis

As an employee of C.L. Lewis & Co. you will be expected to perform your duties as required by your Superintendent. Your Superintendent will have the responsibility of hiring and terminating employees. Upon hiring, he will explain what he will require of you as a member of his crew. If your performance is unsatisfactory due to lack of ability, failure to abide by the Company’s rules, or failure to fulfill the requirements of your job, you will be notified of the problem by your Superintendent. If satisfactory changes do not occur, you may be dismissed.

General Guidelines, Rules & Regulations

  1. Regular and timely attendance. It will be your responsibility to contact your Superintendent or our main office (434-845-3468) if you are unable to report to work. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated and will be considered grounds for dismissal. You will be given two verbal warnings by your Superintendent and one written warning from the office. After that you will be dismissed if the absences continue. Tardiness and leaving early is as detrimental to our company as an absence. These events carry the same weight as an absence.

  2. You are expected to work until the designated quitting time.

  3. It will be your responsibility to perform your duties as required to the best of your ability and also to be able to get along with your co-workers. You will be expected to show respect for your workplace, as well as the vehicles, tools, and equipment belonging to the Company and your co-workers.

  4. It will be your responsibility to provide transportation to your assigned workplace and to provide the tools necessary for your job classification. It will also be your responsibility to safeguard your personal tools, as any theft of personal tools on the jobsite will not be covered by company insurance. You will need to carry your own insurance on your tools.

  5. The use or possession of alcohol or narcotics, or being under the influence of either, is strictly prohibited when working or while traveling to and from work.

  6. Fighting, horseplay, pranks and other forms of misconduct will not be tolerated.

  7. The carrying of firearms on your person or in company vehicles is strictly prohibited.

  8. Unauthorized use of company property, trucks, or equipment is prohibited.

  9. It will be your responsibility to conduct yourself in a proper manner as you will be a representative of the company while in its employ. The way you look directly affects the opinion of our customers and others with whom you come in contact. Therefore, it is your responsibility to be properly dressed and practice good personal hygiene. Failure to do so or to disregard the best interests of this company will be grounds for dismissal.

  10. Any attempt by an employee to misrepresent their skill level or trade classification at the time of hiring will be grounds for dismissal.

Dress Code for All Field Personnel

  • Long Pants

  • Hard-soled shoes (no tennis shoes)

  • Shirt with sleeves at least 4” long

  • Safety glasses

  • Hard hat
